What will you learn?

Understanding brain imaging is a practical necessity rather than an academic exercise. The radiology reports (diagnostic radiology) simply don't have the rehabilitation specific information you need (clinical radiology). Completing this course will enable you to extract rehabilitation specific information. You will learn:

  • To identify the anatomical structures in 2D, which is different to the 3D neuroanatomy you learnt at university.

  • To identify structures in axial, coronal or sagittal planes, and when is the best time to use each.

  • To identify the exact location of lesion in relation to the cortical lobes. This level of specificity is often missing from the radiology reports.

  • To identify and understand the information different types of brain images (sequences) give you.

  • To apply the rehab information you obtained from the scans to improve the assessment and treatment you give your clients (patients).

Frequently asked questions

  • Why do I need to learn brain imaging? Doesn't the radiology report have all the information I need?

The radiology reports don’t have all the information you need! This is because the radiologist’s role is to examine the brain scans and suggest the most likely diagnosis. As such they are more interested in the pathological processes underlying the lesion rather than its exact location. We, as rehabilitation clinicians need to know the exact location and extent of the lesion to analyse its impacts on function.

  • Will I actually be able to learn brain imaging?

Yes you will! You might doubt that you’re capable of learning these skills, but I KNOW that you can, because hundreds of rehabilitation clinicians (from various disciplines) already learnt these skills. I have developed a framework for teaching you brain imaging, where the theory is just the beginning. I teach bite size chunks, and explain complicated concepts in a simple manner. I include lots of practical work to enable you to translate your learning into clinical practice. Read the reviews on: https://www.g.page/brain-rehabilitation.

  • What will I learn in the course?

You’ll learn to find your way in the film mag, open the images and identify in 2D the exact location of lesion within the cortical lobes. This level of specificity is missing from the radiology report. You will also learn to differentiate between CTs and various MRI sequences of the “direct measurements” type. You'll develop a certain degree of dependency from the radiology reports so that you won't miss out on important rehab information. I'll teach you how to use the rehab information you extract to improve the way you assess and treat your clients, interact with them, with their family and with the treating team.

  • What does the course involve?

The course runs over 3 days. Every day you'll receive a new section / chapter of the course. Your learning material will include, teaching videos, PDF slides, case studies and quizzes (to make your learning very practical) as well as cheat sheets (so you don't have to rely on your memory). You’ll get the PDF of my slides and the chance to ask me questions 😊.

  • What is unique about this course?

The uniqueness of this course is in my teaching style. I have extensive clinical experience (since 1995), in-depth neuroscience knowledge (since my PhD and ongoing) and the gift of explaining complicated concepts simply. Furthermore, I’ll teach you skills (of clinical radiology) that were not available elsewhere until I started teaching them. Another unique aspect of this course is that whenever I teach you a new concept, I integrate it immediately with a practical task. The practical tasks are designed to teach you how to translate the theory into clinical practice so that you can apply it to your clients immediately. I take this approach to ensure that anything I teach, moves you towards being able to asses and treat your clients better.

  • How long will I have access to the learning material?

Learning is best when you have a chance to revise your learning. Therefore, the course will be available to you for three months, so that you can review the videos and redo the quizzes.
